Overview
The Inclusive Abundance Initiative seeks short proposals for a policy paper examining targeted reforms to the U.S. immigration system to support national AI talent. The paper should identify specific, well-considered changes from the Executive Branch or Congress that could meaningfully boost America's national AI talent pool (or critical and emerging STEM pool more broadly).
Paper Specifications
- Length: 1,000-2,000 words
- Timeline: Final submission due within 2-4 months of award
- Content: A narrowly targeted immigration reform policy* proposal that is:
- Impactful
- Aligned with Abundance
- Specific
- Nonpartisan / politically plausible
- Evidence-based
- Implementable
- At least somewhat novel (e.g., could include offering a new level of detail for an existing idea)
Proposal Specifications
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals should not exceed 1 page. Proposals will be foremost evaluated based on:
- Alignment with Inclusive Abundance principles
- Scale of impact
- Political and administrative feasibility
- Author / team qualifications and track record
- Novelty
Moreover, additional preference will be offered for:
- Abundance Innovators / Abundance Community Participation: Membership in or recent interaction with our nonpartisan network of independent researchers, academics, and experts from a variety of fields who are working to bring abundance-focused ideas and policies to life, including participation at Abundance 2024
- Cross-Institutional Collaboration: Proposals involving collaboration between experts at two or more institutions, especially one or more partner institutions
- But-For Value: Projects not already part of funded research portfolios
The presentation / formatting of the proposal will not play a significant role in its evaluation.
Award
The selected proposal(s) will receive a grant ($12,500-$25,000) to support the research and writing process. Additional funds may be available for supplementary resources as needed.
